About this event

The Maynooth University Students for Charity - Galway Cycle 400 | 40 | 4 will take place on April 2nd-5th 2021.

What is the 400 | 40 | 4, you may ask? Given the impact of COVID-19, it can't be assumed that it will be possible to organise a traditional Galway Cycle in 2021, following the postponement from 2020, so the organising committee instead are excited to instead present a new format, where participants do any one of the following over the course of the normal Galway Cycle weekend:

  • Cycle 400km
  • Run or walk 40km
  • Swim 4km

Subject to restrictions at the time, this may mean doing the entirety of your chosen activity solo or with one other within your 5km radius, or if the restrictions are more relaxed allowing for small group exercise, it may be possible for "chapters" of participants to meet up and participate in a set of small mini events. Whatever you choose to do, and whatever options are available, we look forward to having you on board with your chosen activity, and raising funds and awareness for this very worthy cause!

This is the 33rd year of the Maynooth Students for Charity event, and we are proud to announce that all funds raised will go directly to Rosabel's Rooms.

About Rosabel's Rooms…..

Rosabel's Rooms is a project under the auspices of the Irish Hospice Foundation (CHY 6830 with the Irish Revenue Commissioners and Registered Charity No.20013554 with the Charities Regulatory Authority) concernd with developing the following activities:

  • Through the Design & Dignity Programme at the Irish Hospice Foundation, this project is facilitating the development of family-friendly bereavement suites in hospital emergency departments around Ireland, which will provide comfort and dignity for families following the loss of a loved one.
  • The Rosabel’s Room-to-Heal fund is providing direct financial support to families when a child dies in Ireland. The Fund is helping bereaved parents and families to take time off work, pay for funeral costs etc.
  • Over the coming paths, this project will work to ensure required therapeutic supports are made available for individuals impacted by child loss.

Sharon Foley CEO of the IHF says: “We hope this partnership with Rosabel’s Rooms will give families sanctuary to be together in private at extremely difficult times. The essence of Design & Dignity is to convey a sense of reverence and respect for life, death and bereavement.”

Fundraising totals

While traditionally the organising committee have specified fundraising totals to be met, this is a year unlike all others, and instead we would ask that you do your best to raise as much as you can for this very worthy cause.

Important information for cyclists:

CYCLING IRELAND INSURANCE:

Given that there will be no single event as with other years, Cycling Ireland Insurance is not a requirement to participate in 2021, but we would recomment you renew yours so as to have insurance cover while training.

DATES FOR JERSEYS:If you register for the Galway Cycle on or before midnight Feb 17th your cycling jersey will have your name printed on it. All those registering after this date won't have their name on their jersey, and are not guaranteed a jersey.
